Oakley House was recorded February-June, 1995, as part of a class in vernacular architecture at Louisiana State University. The following students recorded the house: Robert Alfonso, Rich Bission, Laura Brooks, Nancy Brummer, Tad Sebastian, and Jayant Swamy. Judith Andre Verges conducted a comparative study of Oakley and historic houses of the North Carolina tidewater. The project was directed by Dr. Jay Edwards of the Fred B. Kniffen Cultural Resources Lab at Louisiana State University.

Historic information was provided by Libby Dart of St. Francisville, David Floyd of the LSU Rural Life Museum, and by Lester Kent of the Louisiana Division of State Parks. Sid Gray interpreted physical features and changes in the building. Rich Bission, Nancy Brunner, and Jayant Swamy rendered the drawings using autocad. Jay Edwards conducted historic research.
