Cinclare Plantation

State Highway 1, Brusly Vicinity, West Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana

Cinclare Central Factory, commonly referred to as Cinclare Sugar Mill and located between Louisiana Highway 1 and the Mississippi River near the small community of Brusly, is significant both for its architectural style and for its position as one of the oldest continuously operating sugar mills in the state. Four separate plantations were combined in 1855 to create this plantation. The growing and milling of sugar cane on this property has continued uninterrupted since 1865, shortly after the Civil War ended. The present owners, Harry L. Laws Co., Inc. of Cincinnati, bought the property in 1878 and named it Cinclare.
